My Granny McCabe told me that whatever I needed in life could be found right here in these hills. “You only have to be needy enough and strong enough to take it,” she had said.
When we made a pact to hand out some hard justice to them that deserved it, I told the girls to clear their minds and think of nothing else but the goal. I threw in a few charms Granny had taught me and used what came to hand in the rituals.
This is a land of sandstone ridges and crystals formed deep in the earth. Ginseng and laurel grow on the rugged mountainsides. There is magic all around us just waiting to be called on. There is power here just waiting to be conjured. All we need is here in these hills and within ourselves.
“There is nothing we can’t do if we will it to be true!” Our cry echoed down the valleys and across the ridge tops.
