THE WATER RAIDERS

The beauty of the mountains has shaped Anna Fields’ childhood.  The summer she turns 16, severe drought threatens her family’s home.

Although Appalachia is poor in many ways, water flowing deep in the earth’s core bubbles to the surface in the springs, creeks and rivers. The mountain ridges and remote hill country of West Virginia have an abundance of water, while the rest of the nation struggles. Speculators and thieves flock to the region to steal the water and sell it for profit.  Government officials and law enforcement cannot control the situation, so the Fields family must defend their precious resources.

Anna knows the path her life will take.  Her namesake and great-grandmother, the wise-woman Anna Mae, was born in 1780 at the base of the same mountain that is Anna’s home.  She has always been aware of Granny’s protective presence, especially now when her own power begins to blossom.

Her mother, Allie, takes Anna’s growth in stride; but her father, Dan, worries for her safety.  In 1862, while marching with Jackson’s army, Dan Fields fell through a rift in time.  He struggled with dark magic and its agents as he worked to make a place in this world and has never accepted his own magical gifts.  He always says that meeting Allie saved his life.

Dan’s cousin, Dillon, has also inherited magic powers from Granny.  A warlock, he uses his gift for personal gain. He has sold his skills to the water raiders in hopes of enriching himself at the expense of Dan’s family.  Dan realizes it is time to embrace his own powers and accept his daughter’s magical skills.

Desperate to reverse the drought, Dan aligns with the Fey, an ancient magical tribe living among humans for centuries.  Although few know of their existence, the Light Fey respect and protect nature.   They are natural allies in overcoming the powerful odds facing the Fields family.
